This Privacy Policy describes how ClearCairn Media Inc. ("ClearCairn," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and discloses information from visitors to clearcairn.org. We operate in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy legislation.
Information We Collect
ClearCairn is a static editorial archive. We do not operate user accounts, e-commerce transactions, or subscription services. The categories of information we may collect are:
- Contact form submissions: If you submit a message through the contact form on the About page, we receive your name, email address, phone number (optional), and the content of your message. This information is stored securely and used only to respond to your inquiry.
- Server logs: Our web hosting provider automatically records standard access log data, including IP addresses, browser type, referring URL, and pages visited. These logs are retained for a maximum of 30 days for security and performance monitoring purposes.
- Cookie preference: When you interact with the cookie consent banner on the homepage, your choice (accepted or rejected) is stored in your browser's
localStorage. This value is never transmitted to our servers.
Cookies and Local Storage
ClearCairn does not set third-party analytics cookies, advertising cookies, or social media tracking pixels. The only client-side storage used by this site is a single localStorage key (cc_consent) that records your cookie banner response. No personal data is written to this value.
If you reject cookies via the consent banner, no additional tracking beyond server access logs (which are standard to all web hosting infrastructure) occurs.
How We Use Information
Contact form submissions are used exclusively to respond to the inquiry or correction submitted. We do not use contact information for marketing communications, and we do not share it with third parties unless required to do so by Canadian law or court order.
Server log data is used to diagnose technical problems with site performance and to identify patterns consistent with automated abuse or security threats. This data is not linked to individual user profiles and is deleted on a rolling 30-day basis.
Data Sharing
ClearCairn does not sell, rent, or trade personal information. We do not share personal data with advertising networks, data brokers, or social media platforms. Server hosting is provided by a Canadian data centre operator bound by PIPEDA obligations.
Data Retention
Contact form messages are retained for up to 12 months following the date of receipt, after which they are deleted. Server access logs are retained for 30 days. Browser-stored consent preferences persist until you clear your browser's local storage or until you change your preference.
Your Rights Under PIPEDA
You have the right to request access to personal information we hold about you, to request correction of inaccurate information, and to withdraw consent for the processing of your personal information. If you have a complaint regarding our privacy practices, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
